The fundamentals about scientific publications

The module AT2. MDD 101/EN – Open Science : an introduction to Open Science and to Open Access publications (0.5 credit) consists of two workshops:

Introduction to open science (approx. 2.5 hours)

For more than 300 years, the publication of articles, chapters or conference papers has been the main method for disseminating scientific knowledge. The digital transition has turned this model on its head: open dissemination, new proofreading methods, enriched content and links with research data. New forms of publication, journals and publishers have emerged, transforming all disciplines – sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. This evolution continues, and this course will provide PhD students with an insight into this changing context and how they can contribute to this transformation.

Follow the activities on ARCHE at your own pace (approx. 2.5 hours) and finish the module by taking part in one of the five online debriefing sessions (please note that the debriefing will be shared with the other course in the module).

Submitting your publication on the Open Access Repository HAL (2h30)

HAL is an open repository, i.e. a platform for the permanent archiving and open access dissemination of scientific production. HAL is at the heart of the Open Science strategy at national level (National Plan for Open Science, CNRS, ANR, etc.) as well as at UL. The HAL Univ. Lorraine portal officially opened in May 2016 and became the University’s official bibliography in 2018.

During this training course you will address the issue of open access to scientific publications via self-archiving in open archives as well as the use of HAL (managing your account, your publications and depositing references and full text).

Follow the activities on ARCHE at your own pace (approx. 2.5 hours) and finish the module by taking part in one of the five online debriefing sessions (please note that the debriefing will be shared with the other course in the module).
